K1 Genetic Testing is Available

Horses carrying the K1 variant develop symptoms of exercise intolerance as they age. The age of onset and the severity of symptoms is variable.

Horses that carry one copy of K1 have a predisposition to develop symptoms. Horses with two copies of the variant K1 are expected to develop symptoms.

Treatment includes a high portein diet and a specific exercise plan.

*Researchers at EquiSeq have identified K1.  The results are not yet published in a peer-reviewed academic journal.

You can get your horse tested for K1 at Equiseq.com
